Why We Judge

FROM BEARS (Barry Neil Kaufman): Today's Thought: We judge in order to make what we want or don't want more powerful. We call what we want "good" and what we don't want "bad." Unfortunately, what we call "bad," we often fear and then fill ourselves with distress and discomfort.

Thus, our judgments cloud and limit our vision: acceptance and understanding creates peace and community. Let's start trusting what we want when we're happy.

  1. What a gift to the world from Bears! People often know for a variety of reasons that judging is not a "good" thing but end up judging themselves and others with little awareness. Yet if we follow our wants without needing to motivate ourselves by judgements, doesn't it feel good inside? Its almost an adventurous, childlike endeavour which we have unlearned when moving into adulthood. Not judging does not solve problems -- and I think finding solutions is what we are taught to do in life -- instead it helps us to "go with the flow" of our own wants towards happiness without the need for judgements to make those wants more powerful.
